Because America is currently running headlong into embracing a socialist agenda, and because there is a growing resentment toward Christians and the liberty in Christ that we stand for, I would like to challenge the home educating community to commit to getting on our knees in prayer every Monday in 2009. You read right. Every Monday in 2009. Let's make every Monday a day of praying that the people of our nation would turn to Jesus Christ in repentance and faith. Let's pray for a revival! In history, revival has begun through the prayers of God's people.
We are an apathetic church in America...for the most part. We'd rather watch American Idol than pray. But while we are glued to our brand new plasma TVs, our freedoms are being taken away. The church in early America saw it as their duty to disciple their new nation. Family by family. Town by town. And while they fulfilled the Great Commission in their nation, the nation grew and thrived. We've lost our vision. We think we can have our fun, count on Christ to rapture us before it gets real bad, and let our responsibilities...and our posterity...slip through our fingers.
Our country is divided in two. There is the America that loves it's God-saturated history, it's constitution, it's freedom of religion and speech and enterprise, it's Book, the Word of our Creator that was the inspiration for this great nation. And then there is the America that hates God, hates people who love God, hates anything God crafted...like babies, marriage, families, life, churches, free speech, purity, ownership, individuality, etc. They have successfully taken America's children and effectively indoctrinated them in their socialist, Darwinian religion. They've taught our children through entertainment and media to embrace immoral lifestyles of death and destruction. They've brainwashed the masses of children who are now young adults into believing that in order to have "order", people must be controlled. Wealth must be redistributed. Speech must be muzzled.
We need to cry out to the Living God. We need to pray. Let's do it every Monday! Our family plans to do something like this: every Monday we will fast for either breakfast or lunch (big kids and adults only! Fasting isn't something small children should do!!) During that meal...or both if we feel it necessary...we will sit around the table and pray instead of eating. We will have our list of specific things that we believe God wants us to be praying for...for America. We will pray for our President. We will pray for our judges. For our congressmen. For our governors. For our pastors. For our churches. For the teachers in the government indoctrination centers.
We will pray for the Creator to turn the hearts of His own toward Himself and see Him as their greatest treasure. That this world would lose it's allure and that they would find Jesus supremely beautiful. We will pray that the Creator would open the eyes and hearts of the unbelieving souls in our country and cause them to see Christ for Who He is. The Reigning King. The Savior of sinners. The One Treasure of the universe. The Pearl of great price.
Does this seem too radical? Unnecessary? Things aren't that bad...YET? I would like to recommend three resources to help educate and inspire you and your family as you consider this year-long prayer commitment. First of all, I highly recommend a film entitled A Nation Adrift. You can google it and find it for sale in many places. I cannot watch it without weeping. And frankly, it was the inspiration for this idea to pray every Monday in 2009.
Secondly, I recommend that you read (with your family!) America's Providential History by Mark A. Beliles and Stephen K. McDowell. Most of us raised in the socialist government schools don't know a thing about our real roots. It's been well hidden. Time to educate ourselves. Again, you can google that book and find it for sale.
Finally, I recommend the book, The Power of Prayer: The New York Revival of 1858 by Samuel Prime. (Click on that title to go to Grace and Truth Books.)
Please JOIN ME in promoting MONDAY PRAYER FOR REVIVAL 2009! Pass it on to your home educating friends and relatives! Christ Himself instructed us to pray, "Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." Matt. 6:10 Let us pray to that end!

If you'd like to help recruit "soldiers" for the battle, you can copy the Uncle Sam banner on my sidebar (the copy link is in the little box right below Uncle Sam) and paste it in the sidebar of your blog or website.
If you would like to read an article written by Jonathan Edwards on the effects of Prayer on revival, go HERE!
And for an excellent sermon by John Piper on the subject of praying in 2009, go HERE.

Welcome Civilla!
It gives me joy to know you will be praying with our families! Thank you so much for praying...and spreading the word. May our efforts through the grace of God bear fruit here on earth and for all eternity!

I think this is a Great idea.
Hope you don't mind but I e-mailed this challenge to several Christian friends (not necessarily homeschoolers).
I put your link in the e-mail.
So you may see a flood of people come by.
I also posted it on my blog.
May God Bless You & Yours,
Michelle

Thank you Michelle! My hope is that there will be hundreds of families all across America fervently praying for revival every Monday this year! Our God is greater than what we see happening around us. Let's place our hope in Him and His saving right hand!
Natalie
I posted on my blogs, linking to you, & have the button on the siedebars - the more the better; thank you for this!
I will definitely be joining the challenge. I don't have a clue though how to put button on the sidebar in my blog.
Welcome to the battle Scrappy Quilter! (I'm a scrappy quilter myself!) You can copy the banner by highlighting the code in the little box right below the Uncle Sam banner and then copying it (press your control button and your c button at the same time). Then you go into your layout page on your blog, click on "add a gadget". When that box opens up, click on the one that says "html/java code"...and then paste the code by pressing your control button on your keyboard and your v button at the same time. You should be able to see the code appear in the box. Press Save...and then "save" again on your layout page...and you should be able to see Uncle Sam in your sidebar! Hope that helps!
Natalie,
I just found the "Prayer Challenge" through Kelly's blog, Generation Cedar. I notice that you seem to lump together many "sins" of our nation into one "them" category that seems to include socialism, institutionalized education, Darwinism, liberalism, pro-choice advocates, assisted suicide, homosexuality, and a number of other groups. While I agree that these are all problems we as Christian Americans need to address, I feel that this sort of black-and-white categorization has historically been unhelpful in addressing them. It tends to put us into camps of "us" and "them" where open dialogue is more difficult and where we tend to view individuals as ascribing to many of these schools of thought, whereas they may only belong to one or two. Overall, though, I agree that revival is needed in our nation, and I look forward to joining you in prayer!
If you feel called, you may wish to address the concerns I voiced and see about rephrasing this post. Slightly altering your wording to encourage understanding of both sides of the coin (not tolerance of, just understanding and basic human/Christian compassion) may make the language seem less divisive and might encourage more like-minded prayer warriors to join your cause--which is certainly a worthy one!
I hope I have not caused offense in my comments. I do think that this is an important cause, but I do feel strongly about the issue I addressed, and thought I might point it out. I hope I have done so with charity.

Natalie, thank you so very much. It worked!!
Bethany,
I'm grateful for your input! And I'm so thrilled that you will be joining these families in praying for our nation! I wish I had some time to address your thoughts...I don't...but please know that I appreciate the time you have taken to share them with me, and I believe they are valuable and that God will use them to refine me and help me in better expressing the things on my heart! Thank you for your passion for truth and love.
May God bless you and your family with great joy as you glorify our King Jesus!
